SIR (Statistical Inventory Reconciliation) is a stand alone leak detection method for underground storage tanks (USTs). SIR is recognized within the petroleum industry as one of the most efficient and cost effective means available for UST leak detection and regulatory compliance.
How does it work?
Statistical inventory reconciliation, inventory, delivery, and dispensing data collected over a period of time are analyzed to determine whether or not a tank system is leaking.
- Each operating day, measure the product level using a gauge stick or other tank level monitor. Keep complete records of all sales and all deliveries. After data has been collected for the month, you send the data to B-Low Services.
- B-Low Services uses sophisticated computer software to conduct a statistical analysis of the data to determine whether or not your UST is tight. After analysis is completed, B-Low Services provides you with a comprehensive report of the analysis results.
Will I be in compliance?
SIR Pro 1 when performed according to B-Low Services meets the Federal leak detection requirements for new and existing underground storage tanks (USTs) and piping as follows: SIR with a 0.2 gallon per hour leak detection capability meets the Federal requirements for monthly monitoring for the life of the tank and piping. SIR with a 0.05 gallon per hour leak detection capability qualifies for the Federal requirements for line tightness testing as well. We can inform you of State and local limitations on the use of SIR or requirements that are different from those presented below.
Will it work at my site?
- Yes, generally, few product or site restrictions apply to the use of SIR Pro 1. B-Low Services' system is approved in 46 states (not valid in New Hampsire, Rhode Island, Maine, and Illinois) and can handle tank capacities of up to 45,000 gallons. We are able to monitor all types of petroleum products as well as waste oil.
What other information do I need?
- Data, including product level measurements, dispensing data, and delivery data, should all be carefully collected according to B-Low Services specifications. Poor data collection may produce inconclusive results and noncompliance.
- B-Low Services will provide forms for recording data, a calibrated tank gauge stick measuring to the nearest 1/8", and detailed instructions on conducting measurements.
How much does it cost?
- There are no installation or equipment costs. Price: Dependent on the number of tanks submitted to B-Low Services for testing.
What are the benefits of B-Low Services' SIR?
The benefits of the B-Low Services' SIR system are numerous. B-Low Services' SIR system is less costly than other tank and line testing methods. No new equipment or operational disruptions are required: SIR provides continuous monitoring and will detect losses early. Fuel management and internal control are greatly enhanced through reports we provide. The foremost benefit is meeting the regulatory requirements and compliance now and in the future. Put all these benefits with B-Low Services' record of customer service and competitive pricing and you'll see why the B-Low Services' SIR system is the best choice.
